HB 1784 -- Teacher Cadet Program

This bill permits school districts to develop teacher cadet
programs in secondary schools to introduce students to the
teaching profession.  The bill specifies student eligibility
requirements and stipulates that students who successfully
complete such programs will be eligible for college credit at
state colleges, as determined by the Coordinating Board for
Higher Education, and will be given preference for certain
teaching scholarships.  The Department of Elementary and
Secondary Education must develop minimum criteria for cadet
programs, which school districts will then incorporate into
their programs.
