HB878I-UNIONS
Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 878 -- Unions

Sponsor: Hunter

This bill requires that expenditures for political activities by
labor organizations be made exclusively from a fund established
for that purpose. The fund will consist solely of the members'
voluntary contributions. Any administrative costs must be paid
from the fund balance.

Organizations are required to notify their members that
contributions to the fund are voluntary, are for political
purposes, and no reprisal or loss of membership will result from
nonparticipation. Employers are prohibited from making
contributions on behalf of their employees, and organizations are
prohibited from reimbursing their members for contributions to
the fund.

Any person or entity in violation of the provisions of the bill
is guilty of a class C misdemeanor.
