HB 722 -- PROPERTY LEASE IN ST. FRANCOIS COUNTY AND CONVEYANCE
OF PROPERTY IN LAFAYETTE COUNTY

This bill gives the Commissioner of Administration the authority
to lease state property located in St. Francois County to a
private developer for the purpose of building a correctional
facility.

The bill also authorizes the Director of the Department of
Natural Resources to transfer by quit claim deed certain
property in Lafayette County to the State Veterans Commission
for the purposes of a cemetery.

This bill gives the Commissioner of Administration the authority
to lease state property located in St. Francois County to a
private developer for the purpose of building a correctional
facility.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Correctional and State Institutions by a vote of 12 to 0.

This bill gives the Commissioner of Administration the authority
to lease state property located in St. Francois County to a
private developer for the purpose of building a correctional
facility.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that this bill is needed to lease
the property to the builder in order to start construction on
the prison in Bonne Terre.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Johnson; and the
Division of Design and Construction.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
