COMMITTEE
HB 101 -- PROPERTY TAX STATEMENTS
SPONSOR: Smith
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Local
Government and Related Matters by a vote of 17 to 0.
This bill requires that collectors of revenue in all counties,
except first class charter counties, include in the mailed
property tax due statement the amount of property taxes
delinquent at the time of the mailing and any interest or
penalty levied.
FISCAL NOTE: Estimated Net Effect on General Revenue Fund of
Unknown in FY 96, Unknown in FY 97, & Unknown in FY 98.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this bill makes things easier
for a taxpayer. People can forget about delinquent taxes unless
the matter is repeatedly brought to their attention. This
should also avoid some confusion that occurs in situations
involving people who own property in different counties, or
multiple people who own the same property. Certain counties
already follow this practice.
Testifying for the bill was Representative Smith.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
