COMMITTEE
HB 43 -- BEDDING MANUFACTURING
SPONSOR: Bland
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Public
Health and Safety by a vote of 7 to 0.
This bill amends the law to permit rather than require the
Department of Health to inspect bedding manufacturers. The
department will permit the sale of bedding products after
receiving a notarized attestation of compliance.
FISCAL NOTE: Estimated Net Cost to General Revenue Fund of $833
in FY 96, $1,000 in FY 97, and $1,000 in FY 98.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the charge of $20 for
inspections are no longer necessary from a public health
perspective. The bill would require the approximately 50
bedding manufacturers in Missouri to submit a notarized
statement to the Missouri Department of Health to attest to the
fact that bedding would be manufactured in a sanitary manner.
Thus, if a complaint were received, the Department of Health
would know where to locate the manufacturer(s).
Testifying for the bill were Representative Bland; and
Department of Health.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
