HB 116 -- ASSAULT OF A TRANSIT OPERATOR OR METRO VEHICLE OPERATOR SPONSOR: Hoskins (80) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Special Committee on Urban Issues by a vote of 9 to 1. This bill expands the crime of assault of a law enforcement officer, emergency personnel, or probation and parole officer in the first, second, or third degree to include a transit operator or a metro vehicle operator while on duty or in operation of his or her official vehicle. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2010, FY 2011, and FY 2012. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that Missouri has unfortunately had incidents of public transit bus drivers being assaulted. Currently, it is only a misdemeanor. Making the assault a felony to be consistent with assaults on other public servants is good. Testifying for the bill were Representative Hoskins (80); Kansas City Area Transportation Authority; Renee Corley; and METRO. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
