Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HCS HB 124 -- JOINT COMMITTEE ON TERRORISM, BIOTERRORISM, AND
HOMELAND SECURITY

SPONSOR: Dusenberg (Komo)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Homeland Security by a vote of 12 to 0.

This substitute expands the duties of the Joint Committee on
Terrorism, Bioterrorism, and Homeland Security to include making
a continuing study and analysis of the feasibility of compiling
information relevant to immigration enforcement issues.

The expiration date for the joint committee is extended from
December 31, 2009, to December 31, 2011.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2010, FY 2011, and
FY 2012.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that immigration and border security
is part of homeland security. Adding the analysis of immigration
enforcement issues to the committee's duties will help direct
future action towards these areas.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Komo.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
