HB 218 -- MISSOURI HEALTH INSURANCE POOL SPONSOR: Ervin COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special Committee on Health Insurance by a vote of 13 to 0. Currently, after December 31, 2009, a person who has health insurance coverage through an insurer and has experienced a premium rate increase of 300% or more of the individual standard rates set by the Missouri Health Insurance Pool Board is eligible to obtain coverage through the Missouri Health Insurance Pool for high risk individuals. This bill removes this provision. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2010, FY 2011, and FY 2012. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill is necessary to be in compliance with the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act in order to take advantage of tax credits and makes more individuals eligible for coverage through the Missouri Health Insurance Pool. Testifying for the bill was Representative Ervin. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
