HCS HB 237 -- SERVICE OF SUMMONS SPONSOR: Stevenson (Jones, 89) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Judiciary by a vote of 14 to 0. Currently, a court summons requires a defendant to appear before an associate circuit court judge no less than 10 days nor more than 30 days from the date the summons was delivered. This substitute increases the 30-day provision to 60 days. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2010, FY 2011, and FY 2012. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill is more reasonable and will help facilitate judicial efficiency. Testifying for the bill were Representative Jones (89); Dan O'Hearn, Missouri Judicial Commission; Phil Wright, Associate Circuit Court Judges and Probate Judges; and Missouri Bar. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
