HCS HB 752 -- TRANSPORTATION APPOINTEES SPONSOR: Dixon (Schieffer) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Transportation by a vote of 12 to 0. This substitute eliminates the position of Transportation Inspector General for the Joint Committee on Transportation Oversight. Currently, the two members of the Highways and Transportation Commission, one from each political party, who have the most seniority in commission service serve as commission leadership with one as chair and the other as vice chair for a period of one year. At the end of the year, the chair and vice chair rotate. If one of the commission leadership offices becomes vacant, the commission elects one of its members from the same political party as the vacating officer to serve the remainder of the term. The substitute specifies that beginning March 1, 2010, the commission will annually elect the two members for chair and vice chair. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2010, FY 2011, and FY 2012. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will allow a person serving on the commission to decline serving as the chair or vice chair of the commission. Testifying for the bill was Representative Schieffer. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
