HB 779 -- REGULATION OF GAMBLING DEVICES SPONSOR: Parkinson COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Special Committee on General Laws by a vote of 11 to 3. This bill specifies that it is lawful for any person to purchase or sell any slot machine for operation at the residence of the owner if the slot machine is not operated for gambling purposes. A person who owns or operates a slot machine under these conditions will not be guilty of the crime of possession of a gambling device. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2010, FY 2011, and FY 2012. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill does not change the gambling laws. It only allows ownership of a slot machine for entertainment purposes. Testifying for the bill was Representative Parkinson.
