HB 861 -- ASSISTANT ADJUTANTS GENERAL SPONSOR: Day COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Veterans by a vote of 11 to 0. This bill allows the Adjutant General to assign the number of assistant adjutants general that are authorized by the rules and regulations of the National Guard Bureau of the United States. The assistants are required to hold military rank as approved for the position by the Governor and the bureau. Currently, the Adjutant General may only assign two assistants. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2010, FY 2011, and FY 2012. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will bring Missouri into compliance with current federal regulations regarding assistant adjutants general. The scope of military operations in this state is becoming much larger and more diverse and allowing for more assistant adjutants will bring more guardsman to Missouri and create more jobs.
