HB 134 -- Wireless Communications Device Use While Driving

Sponsor:  Fallert

This bill prohibits a person from operating a motor vehicle on
public property while using a wireless communications device
unless the device is specifically designed and configured to
allow hands-free listening and talking and is used in that
manner.  It also prohibits a person from operating a motor
vehicle while using the device to write, send, or read a
text-based communication.  Anyone violating these provisions will
be guilty of an infraction punishable by a $20 fine for a first
offense and a $50 fine for a second offense.  Any emergency
services professional using an electronic wireless communications
device while operating an emergency vehicle within the course and
scope of his or her duties will be exempt from the provisions of
the bill.
