HB 294 -- Nonpayment of Rent

Sponsor:  Chappelle-Nadal

This bill requires associate circuit courts to adopt a local
court rule providing for the centralized filing of rent and
possession cases and to hear the cases within 30 days after the
date of the filing.

The filing of the statement, verified by affidavit, will be prima
facie evidence that the rent has not been paid; and the burden of
proof will be on the tenant to prove payment.
