HB 453 -- Corrections Officer and Jailer Training Sponsor: Roorda This bill creates the Corrections Officer Training Fund to be administered by the Corrections Officer Certification Commission for the training of corrections officers and jailers. A $5 surcharge will be assessed and deposited into the fund for each court proceeding filed in any circuit court in this state, any municipal court which employs a jailer, and in all criminal cases in which the defendant is placed on probation except when any court costs are to be paid by the state, county, or municipality. Moneys in the fund will not at any time be transferred to the General Revenue Fund. Beginning January 1, 2010, all corrections officers and jailers are required to receive a minimum of 36 hours of training every three years. At least half of those hours must be police academy training which meets Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements. Specific training standards will be determined by the commission.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
