HB 483 -- Missouri National Guard and Missouri Reservists Family
Education Grant

Sponsor: Smith (14)

This bill establishes the Missouri National Guard and Missouri
Reservists Family Education Grant, administered by the
Coordinating Board for Higher Education, to provide educational
assistance to children and spouses of guard members or reservists
who served on Title 10 active-duty status between September 11,
2001, and January 1, 2015. The military active-duty status of
the guard member or reservist must be certified by specified
military or veteran officials, and children must meet financial
guidelines established by the coordinating board. Spouses are
eligible if the member or reservist was killed or injured to an
extent specified in program guidelines. Children are eligible
until they reach 25 years of age. The grants are for certificate
or degree programs at public post-secondary and higher education
institutions for the cost of tuition, up to $2,000 for room and
board, and up to $500 for books each semester. No recipient will
receive more than 100% of tuition and book costs when combined
with other aid funds. Recipients may transfer to other public
institutions if they are academically eligible for the degree or
certificate program.

The provisions of the bill will expire six years from the
effective date.
