HB 526 -- Parents' Bill of Rights Sponsor: Grisamore This bill requires the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to develop and produce a publication by January 1, 2010, called "The Parents' Bill of Rights" for parents of students who have an individualized education plan (IEP). The publication must contain clear and concise descriptions of the parents' rights to attend meetings, to have an advocate present at meetings, to receive a copy of the student's evaluation, and to request an independent evaluation at public expense if desired, among other rights. The bill specifies permitted services, assistance, and therapies to which a student is entitled. The parents of a student with an IEP must be given a copy of the publication at least 10 days before an IEP meeting and must indicate at the meeting whether they have received it.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
