Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 877 -- Meningococcal Vaccinations for School-Aged Children

Sponsor: Parsons

This bill requires, by January 1, 2010, the Department of Health
and Senior Services to develop information for distribution in
school districts about the symptoms and severity of meningococcal
disease and the availability of a vaccine to prevent it. At the
beginning of the school year, school districts must provide the
specified information to sixth through twelfth grade students.
The bill does not require a student to be vaccinated or a school
district to pay for the vaccination; however, institutions may
establish additional requirements concerning meningococcal
vaccination.
