Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 886 -- Health Insurance Coverage for Clinical Trials

Sponsor: Stevenson

This bill requires all health benefit plans delivered, issued,
continued, or renewed after August 28, 2009, to provide coverage
for phase I clinical trials for cancer treatment.

Currently, plans may limit certain coverage for routine patient
care costs in phase II of clinical trials. The bill removes this
provision and requires health insurance companies to provide
coverage for routine patient care costs incurred as the result of
any phase of a clinical trial undertaken to treat cancer.
