HB 980 -- Distribution of Controlled Substances

This bill specifies that the offenses of distribution of a
controlled substance near schools, distribution of a controlled
substance near a park, and distribution of a controlled substance
near public housing or other governmental assisted housing were
enacted to create a safe zone around schools, parks, and certain
housing and the fact that the defendant did not know he or she
was in a safe zone at the time of the offense will not be a
defense to the crime.  These offenses will serve as an
enhancement of the punishment for the offense of distribution of
a controlled substance and will not constitute a separate
offense.
