Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 996 -- Kansas City Police Officers

Sponsor: Brown (30)

Currently, police department officers and employees in Kansas
City are prohibited from making political contributions, being
members of any political party committee or a ward committee
person, and campaigning on behalf of any organization, party, or
candidate for public office. This bill removes the ban on police
officers making political contributions and being a member of any
political party committee or a ward committee person. Police
officers will be prohibited from holding a partisan political
office and from campaigning on behalf of any organization, party,
or candidate for public office while on duty, in uniform, or
wearing any clothing or accessory that indicates employment with
the police department.
