Summary of the Perfected Version of the Bill

HCS HB 844 -- CIVIL AIR PATROL (Aull)

COMMITTEE OF ORIGIN:  Special Committee on Workforce Development
and Workplace Safety

This substitute changes the laws regarding members of the Civil
Air Patrol who participate in emergency services or counter
narcotics missions.  In its main provisions, the substitute:

(1)  Removes the reference to state employees and makes the
provisions applicable to all members of the patrol;

(2)  Changes leave of absence for services to be based on a
calendar year instead of a fiscal year;

(3)  Specifies that no private employer is obligated to pay
salaries during the period of leave; and

(4)  Requires any employee of a private employer who is or may
become a civil patrol member to be entitled to receive all
benefits and job protections provided to state employees.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2010, FY 2011, and
FY 2012.
