Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 1208 -- RIGHT OF SEPULCHER FOR MILITARY PERSONNEL

SPONSOR:  Day

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Veterans by a vote of 10 to 0.

This bill adds a person designated by an active duty military
member on the United States Department of Defense Form 93, Record
of Emergency Data, to the term next-of-kin as it relates to the
common law right of sepulcher in choosing and controlling the
final disposition of a person who died while on active duty.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2011, FY 2012, and
FY 2013.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill clarifies the statutes
recognizing the Department of Defense Form 93.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Day; Dewey Rhein,
Missouri Association of Veterans Organizations; Missouri Funeral
Directors and Embalmers Association; and Lynn Dorrall, American
Legion, Department of Missouri.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
