HB 1270 -- CHILDREN'S SPECIAL HEALTH CARE NEEDS SERVICE SPONSOR: Meiners COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Health Care Policy by a vote of 9 to 0. This bill changes the name of the Crippled Children's Service, within the Department of Health and Senior Services, to the Children's Special Health Care Needs Service; renames the Crippled Children's Service Fund as the Children's Special Health Care Needs Service Fund; and specifies that the services are for children who have a physical disability or special health care need. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2011, FY 2012, and FY 2013. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill is a department priority because the name is more appropriate. The fund is primarily used for orthodontic services to treat cleft palates and disburses approximately $30,000 annually. The funds are used when insurance doesn't cover the services. Testifying for the bill were Representative Meiners; Department of Health and Senior Services; and Partnership for Children. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
