Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HCS HB 1271 -- OFFICIAL STATE HISTORICAL DOG

SPONSOR:  Zerr (Brown, 30)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Tourism by a vote of 9 to 0.

This substitute designates Seaman, the dog which accompanied
Meriwether Lewis and William Clark on their expedition of the new
territory acquired by the United States through the Louisiana
Purchase, as the official state historical dog.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2011, FY 2012, and
FY 2013.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that it is important to recognize
Seaman's role in the Lewis and Clark expedition and noted that he
is featured in four major statues depicting Lewis and Clark,
including the one on the State Capitol grounds.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Brown (50); Katie
Barr; and Grace White.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
