HCS HB 1380 -- COMPENSATION OF JURORS IN JACKSON COUNTY

SPONSOR: Stevenson (Salva)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Judiciary
by a vote of 11 to 0.

This substitute requires Jackson County to create a jury service
expense fund for payment of expenses related to the compensation
of jurors. The fund will consist of moneys collected in the
basic funding for jury service. There will be no compensation
for jury service for the first day, $6 for the second day, and
$40 for each subsequent day. No reimbursement will be given for
mileage.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2011, FY 2012, and
FY 2013.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will add no additional
costs to the state, county, or court above the current budget.
It simply changes the way the funds are disbursed.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Salva; Honorable W.
Stephen Nixon; and Jennifer Placzek, Missouri Association of
Trial Attorneys.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
