HB 1640 -- MUNICIPAL COURT JUDGES SPONSOR: Roorda COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Judiciary by a vote of 12 to 0. This bill allows a municipal court judge to appoint an acting county municipal court judge on a temporary basis if the judge becomes temporarily ill or otherwise unavailable. The person appointed must be currently serving as a municipal court judge in the same judicial circuit. The bill also changes the provision which prohibits a municipal court judge from serving as a judge or prosecutor for any other court to only apply to full-time municipal judges. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2011, FY 2012, and FY 2013. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill is needed in order to appoint a judge for an interim period of time when a judge is not available. Testifying for the bill was Representative Roorda. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
