HB 1824 -- LICENSURE OF SOCIAL WORKERS SPONSOR: Sutherland COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special Committee on Professional Registration and Licensing by a vote of 13 to 0. This bill changes the laws regarding the licensure of social workers. In its main provisions, the bill: (1) Revises the definition of "master social work" to limit the supervision required of those in the practice of master social work to no more than 48 consecutive months for licensing purposes; (2) Repeals the provisional license for clinical social workers; and (3) Revises the definition of "qualified advanced macro supervisor," "qualified baccalaureate supervisor," and "qualified clinical supervisor" to be licensed social workers who have supervised in the field of social work for at least five years. Currently, supervision is required for at least five uninterrupted years. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2011, FY 2012, and FY 2013. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill makes necessary clarifications regarding the supervision and practicum requirements for a master degree in social work.
