Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 2114 -- MILITARY PERSONNEL CLASSIFICATION

SPONSOR: Hoskins (121)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Veterans by a vote of 9 to 0.

This bill specifies that the State of Missouri recognizes the
designations of Prisoner of War (POW) and Missing in Action (MIA)
as valid descriptions of casualty status and category
classification for military personnel.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2011, FY 2012, and
FY 2013.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the United States Department of
Defense no longer considers the designations of POW and MIA as
valid descriptions of casualty. Supporters believe that POWs and
MIAs are casualties of war and should be classified as such.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Hoskins (121); and
Dewey Rhein, Missouri Association of Veterans Organizations and
Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Missouri
Department.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
