HB 2182 -- AGRITOURISM
SPONSOR: Munzlinger
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Agri-Business by a vote of 12 to 0.
This bill specifies that, as used in Missouri statutes,
"agritourism" means the act of visiting a working farm or any
agricultural operation for the purpose of enjoyment, education,
training, or active involvement in the activities of the
agricultural operation.
FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2011, FY 2012, and
FY 2013.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that agritourism is a rapidly growing
industry in Missouri. A statutory definition of agritourism is
necessary for obtaining a bank loan and insurance for these
purposes. The department needs the definition to provide
consistency in promoting agritourism throughout the state.
Testifying for the bill were Representative Munzlinger; and
Department of Agriculture.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
