HCS HJR 45, 69 & 70 -- GENERAL ASSEMBLY TERM LIMITS SPONSOR: Jones, 89 (Kingery) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Special Committee on General Laws by a vote of 11 to 2. Upon voter approval, this proposed constitutional amendment limits total service in the General Assembly to 16 years. The service may be split between the House of Representatives and Senate in any proportion as long as the individual serves no more than 16 total years. The official ballot title language is specified in the resolution. FISCAL NOTE: Estimated Effect on General Revenue Fund of an income of $0 or a cost of More than $7,000,000 in FY 2011, an income of $0 in FY 2012, and an income of $0 in FY 2013. No impact on Other State Funds in FY 2011, FY 2012, and FY 2013. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that a longer term allows a legislator to develop greater expertise in particular subject areas.
