HB 1224 -- National Guard and Reservist Family Education Grant Program Sponsor: Smith (14) This bill establishes the Missouri National Guard and Missouri Reservists Family Education Grant Program, administered by the Coordinating Board for Higher Education, to provide educational assistance to certain children and spouses of guard members or reservists who honorably served on Title 10 active-duty status between September 11, 2001, and January 1, 2016, in support of the global war on terrorism. The military active-duty status of the guard member or reservist must be certified by the appropriate military agency. Children must meet financial guidelines established by the board and are eligible until they reach 25 years of age. Spouses are eligible if the member or reservist was injured to an extent specified in program guidelines or killed. The grants, within the limits of the appropriated amounts, are for certificate or degree programs at public postsecondary and higher education institutions for the cost of tuition, up to $2,000 for room and board, and up to $500 for books each semester. No recipient will receive more than 100% of tuition and book costs when combined with other financial aid. Recipients may transfer to other approved public institutions without losing their entitlement. The provisions of the bill will expire six years from the effective date.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
