Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 1295 -- Gifted Students

Sponsor: Lampe

Currently, school districts are allowed to establish special
programs for gifted students. This bill requires the
identification of academically gifted students and the
establishment of programs or differentiated services for them.
Each school district must annually submit a report on its
programs and services to the Department of Elementary and
Secondary Education for approval. Each district must also
include information about the status of its gifted education
program in its annual school report card. A target level for
spending by the school district on these programs is specified.
