Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 1518 -- Missouri Housing Development Commission

Sponsor: Still

Currently, the Missouri Housing Development Commission consists
of the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, State Treasurer, Attorney
General, and six members selected by the Governor, with the
advice and consent of the Senate. This bill changes the
commission's membership to seven members selected by the
Governor, with the advice and consent of the Senate; one member
selected by the Speaker of the House of Representatives; and one
member selected by the President Pro Tem of the Senate.

Five of the individuals selected by the Governor must be
knowledgeable in the areas of housing, finance, or construction;
one must have an educational background or experience in urban
planning; and one must have an educational background and
experience in social work. No more than five of the members
selected by the Governor can be from the same political party.

Currently, two of the members selected by the Governor serve
four-year terms. The bill changes the length of time each member
will serve on the commission by requiring three members selected
by the Governor to serve four-year terms and the individuals
selected by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the
President Pro Tem of the Senate to serve four-year terms. No
member of the commission can be an elected official.

Currently, only members who are appointed by the Governor are
entitled to compensation of $50 per day, plus reasonable and
necessary expenses actually incurred in discharging his or her
duties. The bill allows all appointed members to receive the
compensation.
