HB 1518 -- Missouri Housing Development Commission Sponsor: Still Currently, the Missouri Housing Development Commission consists of the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, State Treasurer, Attorney General, and six members selected by the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Senate. This bill changes the commission's membership to seven members selected by the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Senate; one member selected by the Speaker of the House of Representatives; and one member selected by the President Pro Tem of the Senate. Five of the individuals selected by the Governor must be knowledgeable in the areas of housing, finance, or construction; one must have an educational background or experience in urban planning; and one must have an educational background and experience in social work. No more than five of the members selected by the Governor can be from the same political party. Currently, two of the members selected by the Governor serve four-year terms. The bill changes the length of time each member will serve on the commission by requiring three members selected by the Governor to serve four-year terms and the individuals selected by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President Pro Tem of the Senate to serve four-year terms. No member of the commission can be an elected official. Currently, only members who are appointed by the Governor are entitled to compensation of $50 per day, plus reasonable and necessary expenses actually incurred in discharging his or her duties.
