Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 1836 -- Absentee Voting

Sponsor: Zimmerman

Currently, voters who are prevented for various reasons from
going to the polls to vote on election day can vote by absentee
ballot. This bill allows any registered voter who is eligible to
vote in a particular election to do so by absentee ballot without
being required to state a reason. Election authorities must
deliver an absentee ballot to each registered voter for any
election for statewide office, state representative, and state
senator. Delivery of the ballot will be made in the same manner
that absentee ballots are currently delivered. No application
for an absentee ballot is required when the election authority
delivers absentee ballots, and voters registered by mail must
provide an affidavit along with their absentee ballot unless they
are exempt because of a disability or by federal law.
