HB 1854 -- School Safety and School Violence Prevention Sponsor: Aull Beginning with Fiscal Year 2012 and subject to appropriations, this bill requires the General Assembly to annually appropriate $500,000 to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for deposit into the newly created School Safety and School Violence Prevention Fund. The department must select an existing agency or establish a new one to be the statewide center for school safety and school violence prevention, which will receive moneys from the fund. The center will provide services to all public schools including, but not limited to, violence prevention and intervention programs and models; guidance on building safety and emergency plans; assistance in staff development on school safety; publication of newsletters and maintenance of a web site; annual training for school safety coordinators; acting as an information clearinghouse; and collaboration with national, state, and local agencies on school safety issues. The center must annually submit a budget to the department and a summary of its services and programs.
