HB 1922 -- Green School Grants for School Buildings

Sponsor:  Low

Subject to appropriations, this bill requires the Department of
Elementary and Secondary Education to award grants after July 1,
2011, of no more than $500,000 per fiscal year to school
districts for assistance in obtaining Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the United States
Green Building Council for new construction or the substantial
renovation of its buildings.  Preference for the green school
grants will be given to schools used as community centers of
learning during nonschool hours.
