HB 1982 -- Vacancies in the General Assembly

This bill allows for the cancellation of an election to fill a
vacancy in the General Assembly if the number of candidates
filing for the vacant office, including candidates who have filed
a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate, is equivalent
to the number of vacant positions to be filled by the election
and only if no other questions will be voted on in the scheduled
election.  If an election is canceled, the candidate will assume
the responsibilities of the office in the same manner as if he or
she had been elected.
