Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 2124 -- Licensure of Naturopathic Physicians

This bill establishes requirements for the licensure of
naturopathic physicians.  In its main provisions, the bill:

(1)  Prohibits the practice of naturopathic medicine or a person
to represent himself or herself as a practitioner of naturopathic
medicine, with certain exceptions specified in the bill, without
being licensed;

(2)  Establishes the Advisory Commission for Naturopathic
Medicine to advise the State Board of Registration for the
Healing Arts within the Department of Insurance, Financial
Institutions and Professional Registration on the licensing and
supervising of naturopathic practitioners;

(3)  Specifies the membership, duties, and powers of the
commission;

(4)  Establishes certain criteria which must be met prior to
making application with the board for licensure;

(5)  Requires all persons wishing to practice as naturopathic
physicians to be examined by the board as to their fitness to
practice;

(6)  Authorizes the board to adopt rules, give exams, collect
fees, and employ personnel;

(7)  Exempts certain naturopathic practitioners and other
individuals from the provisions of the bill;

(8)  Allows the board to negotiate reciprocal compacts with
licensing boards of other states for the admission of licensed
practitioners from Missouri in other states;

(9)  Allows the board to adopt rules requiring continuing
education as a condition of license renewal; and

(10)  Requires the board to appoint a naturopathic formulary
advisory committee to advise the board and make recommendations
regarding the drugs and substances that may be administered by a
naturopathic physician under the orders of a physician.

Any person violating the provisions of the bill will be guilty of
a class A misdemeanor.
