HB 2127 -- Orders of Protection

Sponsor:  Kander

This bill changes the laws regarding the enforcement of orders of
protection.  In its main provisions, the bill:

(1)  Specifies that the court must retain jurisdiction over all
orders of protection not just full orders of protection; and

(2)  Specifies that any person who has previously pled guilty to
or been found guilty of violating an ex parte order of protection
or a full order of protection or been found in criminal contempt
of an ex parte order of protection or a full order of protection
within five years of any subsequent violation that involves
physical contact, violence, or a threat of violence initiated by
the respondent will be guilty of a class A misdemeanor with
mandatory jail time.  Any third or subsequent violation will be a
class D felony with mandatory jail time.
