This bill changes the laws regarding the board of directors of
public water districts. In its main provisions, the bill:

(1) Allows board members to receive a fee of up to $100 for
attending each regularly or specially called board meeting.
Members can receive payment for up to two meetings per month
except those in a first classification county, who can receive
payment for up to four meetings per month. No member will be
paid for attending more than one board meeting per week;

(2) Specifies that members will be reimbursed for any actual
expenditures in the performance of their duties as members of the
board;

(3) Allows the chairperson of a board to receive an additional
$50 for attending each regularly or specially called board
meeting but prohibits the chairperson from receiving the
additional fee for attending more than two meetings per month;

(4) Allows the secretary and the treasurer, if members of the
board, to receive additional compensation as deemed reasonable
and necessary by the board for the performance of their duties;
however, the additional compensation cannot exceed $1,000 per
year;

(5) Authorizes the circuit court having jurisdiction over the
district to remove members of the board for good cause upon a
petition, notice, and hearing; and

(6) Prohibits a board member from receiving any attendance fees

of training approved by the board regarding the responsibilities
of the board and its members concerning specified areas regarding
the water district and the Open Meetings and Records Law,
commonly known as the Sunshine Law.
