HB 2171 -- Public Water District Boards of Directors Sponsor: Scavuzzo This bill changes the laws regarding the board of directors of public water districts. In its main provisions, the bill: (1) Allows board members to receive a fee of up to $100 for attending each regularly or specially called board meeting. Members can receive payment for up to two meetings per month except those in a first classification county, who can receive payment for up to four meetings per month. No member will be paid for attending more than one board meeting per week; (2) Specifies that members will be reimbursed for any actual expenditures in the performance of their duties as members of the board; (3) Allows the chairperson of a board to receive an additional $50 for attending each regularly or specially called board meeting but prohibits the chairperson from receiving the additional fee for attending more than two meetings per month; (4) Allows the secretary and the treasurer, if members of the board, to receive additional compensation as deemed reasonable and necessary by the board for the performance of their duties; however, the additional compensation cannot exceed $1,000 per year; (5) Authorizes the circuit court having jurisdiction over the district to remove members of the board for good cause upon a petition, notice, and hearing; and (6) Prohibits a board member from receiving any attendance fees or additional compensation until he or she has completed a course of training approved by the board regarding the responsibilities of the board and its members concerning specified areas regarding the water district and the Open Meetings and Records Law, commonly known as the Sunshine Law.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
