Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 2238 -- Election Offenses

Sponsor: Burnett

This bill creates a class three election offense for giving,
lending, agreeing to give or lend, offering, promising, or
endeavoring to procure money or anything of value with the intent
to induce a person to run for any office in this state if the
person has the same or a similar name as another candidate for
that office and would not otherwise run for office but for the
inducement. Legally made campaign contributions will not be
construed as an inducement to run for elective office under the
provisions of the bill.
