HB 2247 -- Abandoned Vehicles

Prior to authorizing a tow, this bill requires a law enforcement
officer who finds an abandoned vehicle to check the vehicle
registration and have the officer's law enforcement agency
attempt to contact the registered owner of the vehicle after
making a visual inspection to determine if a crime has occurred.
The agency is to determine if the owner knows the vehicle has
been abandoned and inform him or her that if not retrieved, it
will be towed and if the circumstances require immediate removal,
it will be towed immediately.  If the vehicle is registered in
another jurisdiction, the agency must contact the law enforcement
agency where the vehicle is registered and that agency must
notify the owner of the vehicle and of its impending tow.
