Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 2447 -- Sales Tax for School Districts

Sponsor: Aull

This bill authorizes a school district to impose, upon voter
approval, a sales tax of up to one cent in one-eighth increments
for educational purposes. The Director of the Department of
Revenue will collect and deposit the sales tax revenue, less a 1%
collection fee, into the newly created School District Sales Tax
Fund. The department director will disburse the funds monthly to
the appropriate school districts, and any revenue received from
this sales tax will not be included in the calculation for state
aid. Any tax authorized by these provisions will terminate
within three years of the date the tax was imposed unless
abolished sooner by the school board. After the termination of
the tax, a school district may resubmit a tax proposal but must
wait until at least one year after the termination.
