HJR 97 -- Membership of the State Board of Education Sponsor: Dieckhaus Currently, the State Board of Education consists of eight members, each serving for a term of eight years. Upon voter approval, this proposed constitutional amendment changes the composition and term of office of the board to be nine members with six lay members serving for four years with one possible reappointment and one active classroom teacher, one active building principal, and one active school superintendent who each may serve only one four-year term. The resolution allows the first appointees to have varied lengths of initial terms and prohibits more than three of the lay members from being from the same political party. The appointments will continue to be made by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
