AN ACT

To repeal section 217.412, RSMo, and to enact in lieu thereof one new section relating to offender autopsies.




Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:

Section A. Section 217.412, RSMo, is repealed and one new section enacted in lieu thereof, to be known as section 217.412, to read as follows:

217.412. 1. It shall be the duty of the department of corrections to ensure that an autopsy is performed upon all offenders within the custody of the department who die under violent or suspicious circumstances or apparent suicide to ascertain as nearly as possible the cause of death. The department shall maintain a record of the findings and conclusions of each such autopsy. 2. The department shall provide a copy of such record to any member of the general assembly upon request.

3. The department shall post a copy of such record on the department's Internet web site connection.
