HB503C-PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY ELECTIONS
Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 503 -- PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY ELECTIONS

SPONSOR: Dugger

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Elections by a vote of 9 to 0.

This bill repeals a provision requiring a statewide presidential
primary to be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in
February any year in which a presidential election is held and
sets the presidential primary to be held on the first Tuesday
after the first Monday in March of each presidential election
year.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2012, FY 2013, and
FY 2014.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will correct
conflicting statutes. It is necessary to move the primary to
March or the National Republican Party may not include Missouri
in its primary process.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Dugger.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
