HB 537 -- Firearms Sponsor: Leara This bill requires the sheriff or the chief of police of the county or city of residence of a person purchasing or receiving a firearm to execute, within 15 business days, all documents soliciting information from the official that are required under the National Firearms Act in connection with the person's purchase or receipt of the firearm. The term "execute" means to provide all the required information and to approve the purchase or transfer unless the sheriff has information that the firearm would place the person in violation of a state or local law or that the person will use the firearm for other than lawful purposes. A purchaser or transferee who is not prohibited from possessing firearms under a state or federal law is presumed to be receiving the firearm for lawful purposes.
