Summary of the Introduced Version of the Bill

HB 1781 -- Candidates for Public Office

Sponsor: Nasheed

Currently, if a successful candidate or the treasurer of his

candidate committee fails to file the disclosure reports which

are required under Chapter 130, RSMo, he or she cannot take

office or file for any office in a subsequent election until the

reports are filed. This bill specifies that if any successful

candidate, the treasurer of each of the successful candidate’s

existing committees, or any successful candidate who is or has

served as the treasurer or deputy treasurer of any committee

fails to file the required reports, he or she cannot take office

or file for any office until the reports are filed and all fees

assessed by the Missouri Ethics Commission are paid.

The bill contains an emergency clause.
