BILL SUMMARIES

COMMITTEE

HCS HB 1054 -- WEED ABATEMENT

SPONSOR: Sears

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Urban
Affairs by a vote of 8 to 0.

This bill removes exceptions for various cities from the
statutes which makes owners liable for weeds allowed to grow in
violation of ordinances. These statutes will apply to any city,
town, or village.

FISCAL NOTE: Not available at time of printing.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this bill will advance the time
frame that municipalities can deal with the problem of weeds
from 15 days to 4 days. This is important because in the 15 day
time period weeds can grow to about 12 inches.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Sears; and Missouri
Municipal League.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
